Windows 10 will not start after a BIOS update
Lenovo advisory HT512609 addresses this specific model running Windows 10 when a BIOS update is followed by a blue-screen error, restart attempts or recovery settings instead of normal startup. Its recovery procedure involves the storage-controller configuration and BIOS. Read the complete advisory before acting; it is not a general instruction to disable VMD or reinstall Windows for unrelated startup problems.
Windows 10 installation from an external optical drive
A different article, HT511620, covers a failed Windows 10 installation from a CD through an external optical drive. Lenovo describes loading the model’s IRST driver during Windows Setup and explains the Tiger Lake VMD naming. That installation scenario is separate from the post-BIOS-update startup issue. Neither article establishes the same procedure for Windows 11. Use the linked official guidance for the matching condition, and treat the downloads below as historical package records.

Before selecting a package, record the full model, Windows version and System type, whether Windows still starts, the exact error, and whether the problem began after a BIOS update or during installation from an external CD drive. If accessible, note the installed storage-driver version without changing BIOS settings.

Both entries are named Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) Driver: the Windows 10 (64-bit) record is 18.0.3.1148, and the Windows 11 (64-bit) record is 18.3.0.1003. These identify the historical entries on this page, not a recommendation to install either one. The Windows 11 record is older than Lenovo’s current DS552410 listing; do not downgrade to it just because it appears here.
For the external-CD Windows 10 scenario, the Windows 10 entry is a candidate to compare with the model and package requirements in HT511620. It is not evidence that installing that archive package fixes the separate post-BIOS-update startup problem. Neither listed version is a general fix for both symptoms. Stop before installing if the model or Windows architecture differs, the symptoms do not match, the installed version is newer, or the package requirements remain unclear. A Windows 11 package listing does not extend either Windows 10 advisory to Windows 11.
