ChromeOS updates for ThinkPad 13 Chromebook 20GL/20GM

Lenovo identifies machine types 20GL and 20GM as the 13 Chromebook. Its platform specifications list Google Chrome OS as the preloaded operating system. Confirm these machine types before using model-specific support information.

Check the support limit first: Google’s Auto Update policy lists Lenovo ThinkPad 13 with automatic updates until June 2023. This Chromebook has passed its listed automatic-update period. Google says ChromeOS automatic updates cover the operating system, browser and hardware.

For the preloaded ChromeOS system, Lenovo’s driver and update instructions direct you to Settings, About Chrome OS, then Check for updates. Connect to the internet and check for any update available to the device. The About ChromeOS screen also shows the installed operating-system version. If an update downloads, restart to finish installing it, following Google’s update instructions.

You can inspect the device’s own update schedule under About ChromeOS, Additional details. Google explains that a Final software update notification means the device will no longer receive ChromeOS or browser updates, including security fixes. Use that support status when interpreting an update check.
