Lenovo driver preparation worksheet

Before downloading a driver, record the exact computer identity, Windows details and installed device. This printable sheet keeps those checks together so that a technician or an offline PC owner can select an official package deliberately.

Scope: identification and preparation for Windows PCs. This worksheet does not detect your computer, map hardware IDs to models, certify compatibility, or install anything. Keep serial numbers, UUIDs and recovery keys out of public posts.

Comparing T480 and T480s?

Use our machine-type checker and sourced layout comparison to distinguish 20L5/20L6 from 20L7/20L8 before selecting model resources.

1. Record the device, without a serial number

FieldWhere to check / what to recordYour notes
Full product nameCopy the full support name and generation, including suffixes. A family name alone may cover different configurations.________________
Machine type / MTMCopy the complete machine type/model from the label or official product information. Keep the full value; confirm it against Lenovo Support or PSREF.________________
Windows edition and buildUse Settings > System > About. Record the version and OS build.________________
System typeRecord the complete System type text, including the processor architecture, rather than assuming all 64-bit packages are interchangeable.________________
Wi-Fi deviceDevice Manager > Network adapters; also check Other devices if a driver is missing. Record the device name, and Hardware Ids under Properties > Details when available.________________
Bluetooth deviceCheck the Bluetooth adapter itself, rather than a paired headset. Also check Other devices if it is missing. Working Wi-Fi does not identify the Bluetooth package.________________
Official product pageSave the exact Lenovo product-support URL, not just a general download homepage.________________
Selected package evidenceRecord the official download and README URLs, listed systems, supported devices, version and release date if provided.________________

See the model and machine-type identification guide for the distinction between product names, machine types and serial numbers.

2. Optional read-only Windows checks

These read-only PowerShell queries display only the selected model and operating-system fields below. The displayed output omits serial-number and UUID fields; CIM reads the underlying system objects, which may contain additional properties. The commands do not change settings. The property values depend on the firmware; blank or unexpected values need another check against the label and official product information.

Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_OperatingSystem |

OSArchitecture does not by itself distinguish x64 from ARM64, and the WMI Version is not a Windows feature-version label such as 23H2. Copy the full System type and Windows version from Settings > System > About. Keep the displayed-field filters when sharing command output.

These commands were reviewed against Microsoft documentation. They have not been run on every Lenovo model and do not establish driver compatibility. If unavailable, use the label, System Information and Settings instead.

3. Prepare the package and a way back

For network devices, use our Wi-Fi and Bluetooth package selection guide. On mixed-brand fleets, keep a separate worksheet for each machine; product identifiers and OEM packages are not interchangeable.

4. Stop when evidence is missing

If the full model, installed device or package support remains uncertain, keep the uncertain field blank and ask the relevant manufacturer for help. A hardware vendor ID is not a complete compatibility verdict. A successful HTTP download also does not prove that a package is safe or suitable.
